Promotional Assessment Exercises
In-Basket Exercise
During this exercise the candidate is given tasks, reports, emails, and other materials to make decisions on and putting them into priority of events. Once completed the candidate presents their decision to assessors.
Conflict Interaction Exercise
This exercise provides an employee with a behavior problem or poor work performance or even a citizen with a complaint. The candidate receives a score on how they handle the situation and resolve the incident.
Structured Interview
Tactical Decision-Making Exercise
A structured interview is for a fire department board or assessors to get to know the candidate and their core valves and interpersonal skills. A set of skilled questions are asked to evaluate the candidate response.

The candidate is given an emergency incident that can be delivered by a software program or external practical exercise. The exercise measures the tactical tasks and assignment accomplished along with communications skills and decision making and problem-solving skills.
Oral Presentation Exercise
Candidates are given a topic or assignment where some research will need to be accomplished and then presented to a board or assessors.
Leaderless Group Exercise
All candidates are brought into a room with a large table with chairs. They are given a topic to discuss in order to arrive at a problem-solving conclusion. Each candidate is reviewed and evaluated for their performance.
